General impression:
Why was this movie disliked so much? Is it because sometimes people tend to take things more seriously than it’s the case? Or did they watch a different movie, not the one I saw? For me, “Death to Smoochy” was a great parable. The guy in the costume is a positive character, and stays positive until the end, despite temptations, the bad guys do their job being bad, repentance pays off, the lost find themselves, and so on. It may be a freaky and unusual movie, but it is not negative at all. Actually, it’s quite refreshing amid so many movies that tell the story, explain it for you, and dictate you an opinion too. Oh, and Robin Williams being nominated for worst actor!? For this role!? Hmm… whatever. It’s still a good movie in my book 😛
Highlights:
A compact movie, an uncompromised vision, and some points made.
Downside:
Too bad it was a box office flop and much too criticized.
Would I see it again? – Yes
My Rating (1 to 10): 9.5
Recommended: Yes
Suggestion:
Don’t trust the critics with this movie – they seemed biased to me.
