General impression:
This is not my favorite Woody Allen movie, but I liked it. It’s romantic, poetic, nostalgic, and speaks of things I know (oh so) well – the feeling of not belonging to your time, for example. Witty humor is not the main ingredient of this movie; instead, it deals with the emotional fact that people are always idealizing some out of reach “good old days”. Rachel McAdams delivers a painfully annoying character, and Owen Wilson plays the dreamer – both acting as well as they always do. Some said that Wilson is not suitable for an Allen-like part, but I think he was a fresh choice that really made a difference to the whole movie. All in all, it’s a highly enjoyable movie, drenched in scenic Paris imagery, and Woody Allen didn’t get the Oscar (for best screenplay) for nothing.
Highlights:
It’s charming. Light and charming.
Downside:
It’s a bit of a crowd-pleaser – not necessarily a bad thing.
Would I see it again? – Yes, someday.
My Rating (1 to 10): 8.5
Recommended: Yes
Suggestion:
If you want to watch a relaxing movie that can leave a warm smile on your face, “Midnight in Paris” is perfect.
