General impression:
“Moonrise Kingdom” is, in my opinion, the best non-animated Wes Anderson movie yet. I’ve seen several of Anderson’s movies, and thought they were original and well made, in spite of some boring and/or empty parts. My favorite was “Fantastic Mr. Fox” which I thought was flawless, and loved completely. What I like most about Anderson’s work is the sense of neatness and proportion that complements his actual style and vision. “Moonrise Kingdom” goes along the same line, but also has an enchanting quality that sets it apart from Anderson’s other movies. It’s a romantic story between children at an age when love is pure, sincere, and taken more seriously than some people will ever take it again in their adult life. It’s about love with no rules, the determination to be together, comfort with each other… you know… love 😀
Highlights:
Probably, the strongest quality of this movie is the charm added to its carefully constructed structure.
Downside:
It stays in the boundaries of Wes Anderson’s creative world, which may or may not be appealing to you.
Would I see it again? – Yes
My Rating (1 to 10): 9.5
Recommended: Yes
Suggestion:
Use this movie as an opportunity to think about and honor your own inner child. Also, remember times with less emotional limitations and concern for projected consequences (aka worrying), and more inclination toward goal-oriented action. It might give you e few extra smiles for the day 🙂
